About
Barbara was born in 1960 and is an award-winning artist originally from São Paulo, Brazil.

Her artistic journey began in 2013 as a cathartic means for coping with the sadness and anguish left by the untimely death of her older brother, thus leading her to seek order and acceptance of the unpredictability of life. Barbara began experimenting with graphite, charcoal and pastels, as well as with felting, watercolors and oils.

Barbara’s work is characterized by an emotional narrative, using color, line, form, texture and mark-making in an expressive and gestural manner. She uses energy and movement to create complex/simple, orderly/chaotic images.

“My job as an artist is to take subjects, whether representational or abstract, and reconnect viewers to their surroundings and emotions. This visual experience may perhaps bring back memories, spark ideas, evoke feelings of joy, passion, melancholy, regret, hope...gratitude.”

Barbara uses surrounding nature for healing, restoration and inspiration, a reminder that our planet, creatures and fellow humans must be cared for and appreciated, something especially relevant in today’s sterile world of technology, fear mongering and wasteful habits.
You can find Barbara in her studio in Yardley, or painting en plain air in Bucks County.
